Configuring CloudIM
CloudIM discovers, tracks, and monitors cloud assets across providers so you can observe hybrid environments alongside on-premises infrastructure in Riverbed IQ Ops. After Support enables CloudIM for your tenant, you prepare cloud credentials, add a third-party authentication profile, create a CloudIM data source, then use Theater View, Topology Map, and Assets View to inspect those assets.
Riverbed NetIM assets can appear in the same console views when Riverbed NetIM is configured and connected. Configure Riverbed NetIM separately, then complete the CloudIM steps for your cloud providers.
Hybrid cloud observability
NetIM+ is a feature that gives Riverbed NetIM customers a hybrid cloud observability console in Riverbed IQ Ops: Theater View, Topology Map, and Assets View (for cloud). Connect Riverbed NetIM through Riverbed Edge to see on-premises devices. If you also have cloud resources, add a CloudIM data source to see those assets in the same views.
What you need before you start
-
CloudIM enabled for your tenant by Riverbed IQ Ops Support.
-
For AWS
Amazon Web Services. A cloud computing platform that provides infrastructure services, including data storage and AI inference services used by .: permission to create an IAM user with limited read access and access keys. -
For Azure
Microsoft Azure. A cloud computing platform that provides infrastructure services, including blob storage for PCAP files and AI inference services used by .: Microsoft Entra ID permissions to create app registrations and assign roles, plus Owner or Administrator permissions on the subscriptions and resource groups you want to monitor. -
Optional: Riverbed NetIM configured so NetIM assets appear with CloudIM assets in shared views. See Configuring Riverbed NetIM.
CloudIM setup path
Complete these tasks in order for each provider you want to monitor. You configure and add a data source
A product in your network that forwards data to the system. This data can be streaming data used to detect anomalies and generate incidents, or data that can be fetched on demand when runbooks are executed. for Riverbed NetIM and for CloudIM separately.
-
Optional: Configure Riverbed NetIM for shared views. Follow Configuring Riverbed NetIM, then add it as a data source as described in that topic and in Adding a Data Source.
-
Prepare cloud credentials for the providers you use:
-
Add an authentication profile for each provider you use:
-
For Azure, add an Azure authentication profile for CloudIM. CloudIM does not require a dedicated Azure Signature method. Choose any Third Party Authentication method. For Entra ID, administrators typically use Open Authorization 2.0.
-
Add a CloudIM data source that uses the authentication profile. Choose the matching provider (AWS or Azure) in the CloudIM dialog.
-
Open Theater View, then explore assets in the views below. For navigation steps, see Theater View and Topology Map.
Use CloudIM views
-
Theater View and Topology Map: geographic overview, drill-down relationships, search, metrics, and map layout controls.
-
CloudIM Assets View: table layout with filters and search.
Remove CloudIM
To delete the CloudIM data source, disable its authentication profile, and ask Support to deactivate the feature, see Remove CloudIM.
Troubleshoot CloudIM
For common configuration and connection problems, including test query failures and empty Theater View results, see Troubleshoot CloudIM.
