Adding a Data Source

Before you add a data source A product in your network that forwards data to the system. The generic procedure for adding a data source to a Riverbed Edge is:

1. In the Data Sources page, select the Edge and click ... and click Connect a Data Source to display the Connect a Data Source dialog.

2. Type the Riverbed Edge's Hostname or IP Address.

3. Set these connection controls:

   • Enable Data Source: Turn this control on to use the data source. You can change Enable Data Ingest only when the data source is enabled. NetIM data sources do not support data ingest.

   • Enable Data Ingest: Turn this control on to ingest metrics A measurement or data point that is monitored and analyzed to detect anomalies and generate incidents. from the data source.    • Note: For a new data source, Enable SSL Validation is off. Leave this control off when the data source uses a self-signed certificate or a certificate signed by your organization. Turning validation on for those certificates causes the connection to fail, because Riverbed Edge cannot trust the certificate. If an existing data source fails to connect for this reason, edit the data source and turn Enable SSL Validation off.

     Enable SSL Validation: Turn this control on to validate the data source SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) certificate before Riverbed Edge connects. Use this control when the data source certificate is issued by a certificate authority that Edge trusts. When you edit an existing data source, the dialog shows the saved setting. This control applies only to the data source. Perform Certificate Validation on the Edges tab is a separate control. That control applies to calls from runbook HTTP (Hypertext Transfer Protocol Hypertext Transfer Protocol. 4. Choose the Source Type: AppResponse, NetIM, or NetProfiler.

5. Type the data source's IP address or hostname.

6. Observe the data source's Protocol and Port settings. The Protocol is automatically set to https, and cannot be changed. The Port will be 443 or 8543, depending on which Source Type you chose; this can be changed, if necessary.

7. Type the username and password for accessing the data source. See the Authentication failure section of the Troubleshooting Data Source Connections topic for data source authentication details.

8. Type a meaningful name to identify the data source.

9. Click Submit to complete, or Close to quit without making any change. The data source is listed under its associated Riverbed Edge on the Data Sources page.

Supported data source versions

Riverbed IQ Ops supports the three most recent data source release versions. The following table lists supported NPM (Network Performance Monitoring) data source types and their minimum and recommended versions.

1. Riverbed NetProfiler dictates the version requirement for any subtending Riverbed AppResponse.

2. These version requirements apply to Riverbed AppResponse connecting directly to Riverbed IQ Ops.

There are no hardware requirements for Riverbed Technology data sources, only the software version. You must install Riverbed Edge in your environment to connect on-premises data sources to the Riverbed Console SaaS platform.
