Chat quick starts

Quick starts are starter prompts on the Chat composer that help you begin common analysis, strategy, and troubleshooting conversations with Riverbed Q (Q). Each quick start is a published catalog CommandClosed Berkeley Packet Filter. A syntax for selecting which network packets are captured or harvested based on protocol, address, port, and other packet attributes.. When you click a card, Q sends that prompt and starts a response stream immediately.

Quick starts are separate from your User Profile. Your profile tailors observations and assistant context. Quick starts are catalog entries your tenant publishes for Chat.

For the full Chat page reference, see Riverbed IQ Ops Chat.

Where quick starts appear

Quick starts appear in the Chat composer toolbar, below the message field, when:

  • You open Chat and have not yet sent a message in the current session.

  • Your tenant has published persona quick-start Commands in the catalog.

After you send your first message, the quick-start row hides so the composer stays focused on your ongoing conversation. Start a New Chat to see quick starts again.

Quick starts do not appear on the Chat landing greeting. They appear only on the composer.

Use a quick start

To start a conversation from a quick-start card:

  1. Open Q from the left menu to open Chat, then accept the Orion chat terms if prompted.

  2. Review the cards labeled Quick starts below the composer.

  3. Click the card that matches what you want to do. Q sends the card text as your first message and begins generating a reply.

You can edit follow-up messages normally after the first response. Quick starts only seed the opening turn.

Quick starts and slash commands

Persona quick-start Commands also appear in the slash command palette when you type / in the composer. Persona commands are listed before other Commands in the palette.

Selecting a slash command sends the command immediately, the same as clicking its quick-start card. For general slash command behavior, see the Composer and commands section in Riverbed IQ Ops Chat.

What quick starts you see

The cards you see depend on which persona quick-start Commands your organization published to the Skill Catalog. Each card label comes from the Command description in the catalog.

Example starter scenarios include:

  • Application performance analysis: Help me analyze the performance of my application.

  • DXI improvement planning: Help me understand how to improve the DXI score for my users in Boston.

  • Network troubleshooting: Help me troubleshoot a network connectivity issue in Paris.

Your tenant may publish different quick starts, rename them, or add new ones over time. If no persona quick-start Commands are published, the Quick starts row does not appear.

Note: Quick starts are catalog Commands, not a fixed list built into the Chat page. An administrator or catalog author must publish Commands with the persona quick-action tag before they appear in Chat.

Embedded Chat

When Chat is embedded in another page (for example, a skill or agent editor), the same quick-start cards can appear on the embedded composer when the session has no messages yet. The same catalog rules apply.
